Course Description

Join us for a conversation with James Suh, Chief Operating Officer for New Orchard. James is passionate about data, particularly in developing data-driven solutions to solve complex real-world problems, or at least to better understand them.

James’s journey with data began in the late 90s with the U.S. Marine Corps when he built simple databases and dashboards in his spare time to solve operational problems facing his unit. These early successes sparked a deep interest in the power of data and systems to answer an endless array of questions. One of his most rewarding areas of focus in the intervening years between the Marine Corps and his current role has been his work on the topic of diversity and access to the CPA profession. His extensive work while at NASBA brought numerous foundational issues to light and sparked a deeper conversation about DEI within the profession.

James will be joining us to talk about his experiences in finding novel ways to measure relative progress in diversity through indirect measurements and repurposing existing solutions to expose a more nuanced perspective of employee engagement. We hope you join the conversation!

Learning Objectives:

  • Design your own data journey, taking advantage of operational experience

  • Recognize when to use relative measures when direct measures don’t exist or are difficult to define

  • Determine how to clean and enhance your data pipeline by thinking forward and working backward

  • Give examples of how to find and leverage public data
